Chronic Pain
Chronic Pain
I have taken 2 Pain Management Courses, one thru The Living Well Program and another thru the M.S. Clinic’s O.P.T.I.M.U.S. Group. They were both weekly Courses over 6 to 10 weeks for Groups of People to learn how to Manage their Chronic pain. There were different types of pain with both groups I was with in these Courses.
The first was a group of M.S. Patients and the different types of pain we all suffered. There was multiple types and severity of M.S. for all 10 of us taking and participating in this one course. This was the longest of the 2 courses going for 10 weeks for a Study of Managing Pain Before it Manages You as a University of Manitoba Psychology Students final paper.
Together we all discussed what type of pain we had and how we controlled the different types. The medications we took to subdue the pain and how much the dosage was that we took at the time, they ranged from Tylenol to Morphine. All of our symptoms for pain were different in certain areas, then again the same in other areas. Depression was the most dominate area because of the uncertainty of what was happening then or the willingness to accept it.

The second group was with The Living Well Program where there was only 2 with M.S. the other 10 people had different types of Arthritis. This Group was interesting because we shared some of the same Symptoms of Chronic Pain also finding out how they handled their pain as well as talking about mine. The others were more interested in our M.S. than their own which I can understand as we live with our own and it is more interesting to hear of other peoples.
The pains varied from pains in the joints, weather, muscle cramps, Depression (low self-esteem, like an outcast, feeling like a burden, not wanting to live). These are just a few of them we discussed in this group. I have fallen into all of these emotional states of mind at one time or another in the past and the present time.

I am losing the use of my right leg most of the time as the calf muscle is slowly losing the muscle for support. Taking this is from lack of use and movement of my leg. The support of my leg disappeared since I have been in my wheelchair and stopped walking. My worst fear of being in a wheelchair the rest of my life and never walk again.
Being this way and having a Lady I want to marry I have made a promise to myself. I will not let my condition stop me from accomplishing and fulfilling my promise to walk down the aisle to get married.

There are 2 different basic types of pain we feel and they are muscle pain and nerve pain.
Everyone knows of some kind of muscle pain which is a pain which can be from a pulled or strained muscle to a muscle. These types of pains are helped by Tylenol 3’s to relieve them.
